Work description
Probiotic Biofilms in Pathogen Inhibition: Internship in Microbial TherapeuticsOverview:This internship explores the role of probiotic biofilm formation in inhibiting pathogenic microorganisms. Probiotic strains such as Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium will be cultivated and assessed for their biofilm-forming abilities using crystal violet assays. Environmental influences like pH, temperature, and nutrient levels will be studied, alongside co-culture models with pathogens including E. coli, Salmonella enterica, Staphylococcus aureus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The project integrates microbiological, biochemical, and imaging techniques to evaluate pathogen inhibition and probiotic functionality.Objectives:1)Select and cultivate probiotic strains under optimized growth conditions.2)Quantify biofilm formation and study environmental factors affecting persistence.3)Develop co-culture models to assess pathogen inhibition and metabolite production.Outcomes:1)Identify probiotic strains with strong biofilm-forming capacity.2)Demonstrate inhibitory effects of probiotics on pathogenic biofilms.3)Generate preliminary data supporting therapeutic and food safety applications.Intern's Responsibilities:1)Perform biofilm assays, co-culture experiments, and antimicrobial tests.2)Use microscopy and metabolite quantification to analyze biofilm interactions.3)Conduct statistical data analysis, maintain records, and present findings.
